This book is written as a study guide. Here you can find tracings of icons from
St. Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod the Great.
The tracings are made in two colours for better understanding of the pictures
and easier work with them. Red drawing lines are used for yellow, red and brown
shades and black lines are used for all dark colours (blue, green) and for white.
The marks on the nimbuses are their centres. The inscriptions on the tracings are
copied from the icons keeping the style of writing. However, it is should be born
in mind, that originally all the inscriptions were restored and therefore they can
contain mistakes. An icon painter, being mindful of his duties, should recheck all
details of his work.
